The MRI was of the neck and spine. I was very nervous and claustraphobic so my PG gave me 2mg of Ativan to take one hour before test. As soon as I walked into the Monfort Portobello waiting room I knew I was in good hands. The receiptionist was so nice, kind and understading when I told her that I was very nervous. She introducted me to the tecnichine who talked to me and explained what was going to be happening and he reassured me that all would be ok and he was right. I layed on the bed, put my sleep mask on. The technician put the thing around my neck and headphones on me and something beside my ears to help drown out the sound. He also gave me a little rubber ball to squeeze if I felt I needed to get out ot the machine. I closed my eyes as soon as I put my sleep maks on and I just listened to what the technician said. He told me I was now being slid into the machine and he would be in constant contact with me and would let me know what was going on. He did that so well, telling me when tests were about to start and when they were about to end and before you know it the tests were over. I think I was in there for about 40 minutes but it felt like 10. There seemed to be a nice little breeze in there so it was really easy to breath and I didn't feel claustrophobic at all!! Because of the sedation of 2mg of ativan and the kind words of all the staff, what I thought would be a nightmare test was a breeze. They have taken awasy the fear and I will have my next one with no hesitation at all. What a group of wonderful people!! I will recommend that all my friends and family who need mri tests to go there so they can receive the same excellant care that I did.
