Here's my experience ...
I have a 2008 Dodge Caravan.
Engine was making noises and had no power.
Called this guy, seemed nice on phone.
Towed to shop and inspected no charge.
Told me engine bearings are blown, I need a new engine. Said it would cost no more than $3000 for a used engine w/80k and labor.
I said OK, go ahead even though that still seemed like a lot to me, I had no choice to fix it.
One week passes, leaves a message on the phone that the engine job is " kicking his A** and that there are codes they are trying to figure out" ... what ?
I drop by to see how far is left, and see 2 guys working underneath the van putting the plastic covers back on ( wheel wells ) and one guy snaps a piece off telling me it's no problem he'll just make a new hole somewhere.
was a little unsettling.
3 days later calls and says job is done.
I go to shop to pick it up, they hand me bill for $3400 plus tax = $3876 !!!
and then tells me at this point that engine only has a 30day guarantee and that their labor has NO GUARANTEE AT ALL !!!
I tell him that is crazy and I don't have the money ( I'm NOT rich )
They offer me $3400 no tax if I pay cash.
Is that even legal ? I don't know but I
take it because I need the van back.
Which means that if this engine dies after 30 days I'm right back where I started.
minus a few thousand dollars.
They give it back to me with grease and oil marks all over the inside and on the steering wheel. Oil and greasy hand prints all over the outside. Horrible.
The same day I see smoke coming out of the engine, that's right, SAME DAY.
I bring it back, the mechanic takes a look
and says it's only oil burning off the manifold.
Now after a week I'm still smelling awful smoke smell even through the air vents inside the van and of course ... I would have to pay for service again.
I feel like I got taken badly.
Places like this should not be allowed to get away with this !
I'm just praying it doesn't blow up or die on me.
