Stage one did a terrible job on my taxes. They made numerous mistakes and then I was audited afterwards. I ended up owing money I shouldn't have then had to wait forever to get it back. They over billed me for things I didn't need. When I finally got to speak with Judy I couldn't believe how unprofessional she was. Just try listening to her answering machine. She is a real piece of work to say the least. Never returns calls, gets aggressive and is very short with you all the time, talks down to you and hangs up when you question her about things. I would not recommend Stage One Accounting to anyone and I tell everyone I know to stay away.
No, I would NOT recommend this business to a friend
I was an actor and I got great advice from the people preparing my taxes at this business. I tried preparing my own, then went to a tax prep place, but the tax people kept coming back to me and changing my tax return and wanting more money.
Went to Stage One Accounting and we reviewed the changes. They explained the problems and got me money back. I have now been with them for 15 years and their friendly common sense advice has made understanding GST and taxes simpler and easier than I ever could have hoped.
I would heartily recommend this company to anyone self employed. Thanks to all at Stage One Accounting !!!
I don't usually do reviews, but I was looking up this business to call them again and was really surprised to see a very negative review as I had such a positive experience with Stage One.
My ex wife and I had just separated and were trying to do everything ourselves. It didn't work, the tax department wanted to audit us and we didn't really understand why or what we needed to do.
I asked a friend and she recommended Stage One as she has been a client for 15 years.
Went to see them and they were so helpful. I spoke with the owner, Judy, and the person that ran their personal tax department, can't remember her name. They both explained the tax guys usually ask for agreements when people first separate and kids are involved so I shouldn't take it personally.
They reviewed what I had filed, immediately spotted the problem and explained what I had claimed incorrectly. Estimated what it would cost for them to amend, how long it would take the government to process the amendments and how much I needed to pay them. Told me what I needed to do and what I should pay them to do.
After quizzing me on the circumstances, who lived where and how much time the kids spent with us, Judy explained who should claim what from a tax viewpoint, e-mailed explanations suggesting I share these with the ex. This helped us agree on what to put in our agreement and Judy recommended a mediator to review and finalize the agreement.
I must say I would recommend the experience wholeheartedly and have on several occasions given the name out to people as a fine example of a company that cares.
Actors and others beware. Stage One did a terrible job on my taxes. They made mistakes which drew attention to my account and got me audited. Then when I went for consultation with Judy Rhodes, she talked about her upcoming vacation while charging me $200 per hour. I swear she drew attention to my account so she can make extra money with consultation fees from audits. I also had a Canada Revenue officer tell me off the record that they are known for being unreliable and just by being their client you attract attention from the government you do not want. I advise you find someone else.
No, I would NOT recommend this business to a friend
