Fairly reasonable place to go looking for a car. Public auction happens third Saturday of every month They have a website where all the cars are listed so it is a good idea to check the cars and note down the one's you like. They all have a unique number starting with 'P' which will help you identify and locate the car in the parking lot.
Remember they also charge a fees on top of the winning bid. In my case it was $437/-(fees) and my winning bid was $5400/- It ended up costing 6600/- including taxes.
Do your homework well on a specific car before you bid and have a cut off point.
Lastly and most important, they will give you a car with unfit to drive certificate so you will need to do a safety inspection and etest before you can use the vehicle. Highly recommended to get the car towed to your mechanic. Don't go to the garages near the auction, they attract you with $125/- special price for tests (safety and emission)but that is only the bait. They charge $95/hour for their work and for sure they will find faults in the vehicle you purchased and may give you a mind boggling estimate which will be too heavy on your pocket. I got $1100/- estimate - crazy isn't it! I somehow managed to save myself out of the situation by paying $450/- for labor and 200 dollars for the parts which I bought myself but the garage owner was completely unhappy and called my parts bullshit. He was not expecting this, not at all. The etest was not completed (as I was told that the car is not ready yet). I had to pay full etest fees twice as it was not worth it that I drive 40 plus kms one way to get a retest and save on the etest price. Overall, the experience with the garage owner in the vicinity was completely unsatisfactory. I hope this saves somebody pain and money. Good Luck!
I would recommend the auction but not the garages in the vicinity unless you have a heavy pocket!
