Steamworks For Men

This business is defunct. There used to be a gay bathhouse which occupied three windowless floors of 487 Lewis; in its heyday it called itself "Steamworks for Men" (no affiliation to the five-city "Steamworks" chain in Toronto and the US) and operated 24/7. By the end of the 00's it had curtailed its hours; the property then went into decline, was renamed to "Lewis Street Sauna" (operating under common ownership with a local gay bar at one point) and eventually closed its doors permanently. It's been gone for a few years now; the owner of the building removed pretty much everything except the metal structural framework and built something else (still three floors, and still the same footprint - bot otherwise glass-front and entirely new). The "new" building looks to be a "Herb & Spice" retail store and a lawyer's office. So nothing left but some strange memories.
