Dear David Adams Richard,I have just finished Lives on the Water. I am not a fisherman but this is as good a book as I have ever read. When I was a child we had a fast, cold creek behind our house that had all kinds of trout. The water was so clear that if you were on the high bank side you could see the fish. Something about walking, watching and thinking in that wild place has stayed with me. I have a story like Peggy's because when my brothers took me fly fishing I got an old bamboo pole. I think it had a safety pin for a hook but it probably was a big, bare old hook. I caught a 3 lb trout, as big as any we ever caught. Thank you for the great stories and for having the courage to be a writer.
