By DL from WinnipegWorst real estate lawyer experience ever.It was very unfortunate that we were referred to the law firm to handle the closing of our new house in Winnipeg. He was referred to us because he works in the same office as the mortgage brokerage that we received our mortgage from. We were new to Winnipeg and needed a lawyer to help us through the real estate closing process as laws are different in Manitoba than in Ontario. Because we were paying a premium ($1150+taxes which is much more than other real estate lawyers in Winnipeg), we were expecting better service. Unfortunately this was not the case. 1. We did not know that in Manitoba law, a lawyer MUST be the one that notarizes the mortgage documents. We went to Red Seal notary in Toronto and they only have Notary Public. At first he said this was okay on an email response. It was after countless vmails and emails, did he get back to me and confirm that Red Seal Notary was not valid, due to the fact they do not have lawyers. 2. We had questions on the title and survey insurance before our closing date. On his documents it said that he advised us on what to do which was not the case. It took countless vmails and emails to get him to call me back. In addition, he yelled at me on the phone saying my fees are going up because I complained to him for his lack of response. 3. When we went to pick up the keys for the house at his office, he did not even have to decency to greet us, hand us the keys, and thank us for our business. 4. He promised that any refunds from overpayment would be refunded 6 weeks after the closing date. The closing date was in the middle of July, and we ended up getting our refund at the end of September. 5. When he yelled at me saying my fees were going up, he was not joking. He ended up increasing my fees by $100 stating that there was extra work done on my case. I would not recommend his services to anyone due to his arrogance, lack of professionalism, and lack of respect to the customer.No, I would NOT recommend this business to a friend-
