Fraser Heritage Society - Kilby Museum

The Kilby Historic Site and Fraser Heritage Society offices are housed in the Cottage located right here in the centre of the heritage sitegrounds. The Cottage was built near the present Kilby Park campground by the Martin family in the 1890s. When Acton and Jessie Kilby took over operation of the Store in 1922 the Cottage was moved to its present site for Thomas and Eliza Kilby. The job was accomplished by one horse, a capstan from a steamboat, and log rollers. The Cottage was extensively rebuilt after the 1948 Flood and as mentioned now used as administration offices. The province of British Columbia owns the Kilby Historic Site and its collection of buildings and artifacts. The District of Kent (Agassiz & Harrison Mills) holds a management agreement with the provincial government. The District, in turn, requested that the Fraser Heritage Society operate the site on their behalf. The Fraser Heritage Society is a community based, non profit Society with a mandate to "provide support and enhancement projects in cultural and heritage organizations." The Society was incorporated in 1999 under the BC Society Act. The Society operates with a volunteer Board of Directors who meets monthly to set policy and procedures. The Fraser Heritage Society delivers educational programming, curatorial tasks, volunteer programs, site administration, contract management and special projects for the Kilby Historic Site.
