      BUSINESS DESCRIPTION

A pedorthist is "an individual who is trained in the assessment, design, manufacture, fit and modification of foot appliances and footwear for the purposes of alleviating painful or debilitating conditions and providing assistance for abnormalities or limited actions of the lower limb." Under the direction of a Physician, I am able to provide a pair of custom made foot orthotics, footwear modifications and custom made footwear to assist in alleviating painful lower limb conditions. With each assessment, I perform an in depth evaluation through observation and palpation of the lower limb which includes: a gait analysis, range of motion testing and a footwear analysis as well as a review of potentially complicated health factors. In Canada, Pedorthists require a post-graduate diploma to attain Canadian Pedorthic Certification - acquired after successfully completing up to a two year apprenticeship and examination process. My testing to become Canadian certified included the knowledge on biomechanics, disease, anatomy, orthotics fabrication, fitting as well as footwear function, design and modification. A Canadian Certified Pedorthist provides devices and footwear to assist in: • Accommodation of foot deformities • Re-alignment of anatomical structures • Redistribution of external and internal forces • Improvement of balance • Control of biomechanical function • Accommodation of circulatory special requirements • Enhancement of the actions of limbs compromised as a result of accident, congenital deformity, neural condition, or disease.
