Engine disaster by Little Britain motors owner
Little Britain Motors did my MG TD engine in early 2014 after another shop had put the piston rings in upside down as analysed by LBM's owner . Although My opinion was all I needed was cylinder honing and new rings. He did a complete engine check and insisted on reassembling the engine , something I requested to do my self as I had done it twice before with no issues. First sign things were not going well after pick up was a misplaced middle cam bearing retaining bolt. It hd been used to hold the generator bracket on. If I had not spotted this the bearing would have spun , seized eventually and ruined the cam and/or block. After installing and starting the engine the rear crank seal leaked badly. Engine had to be removed AGAIN to redo the rear seal . Its perfect now. The the clincher on my first highway speed run ,number three piston melted !!! Stoping the car fro 110kph to 0. When I finally got the car home and removed the head I FOUND THE WRONG HEAD GASKET ( for an earlier model of my engine )USIDE DOWN AND BACKWARDS completely blocking off the coolant flow to the head !!! unbelievable I put a good piston n and replaced the big end bearing and after 1000miles it has burned a litter of oil- way too much. So new piston and rings all round again. So last month on disassembly I find he put all the connecting rods in BACKWARDS with the gudgeon pin bolts in facing the cam shaft , the shop manual distinctly specifies they must be facing opposite to the cam ( as they were when the engine was given to him ) I approached the owner of LBM with irrifutable photos and evidence of the head gasket and he knew of the other early problems but refused to refund any money except to offer to fix the engine if I brought it in .After all this I WOULD NOT LET HIM NEAR MY LAWN MOWER. I am not a crank and bear the man no personal ill will but this is shear incompetence on a grand scale. As for integrity …well , you judge for yourself . I wish I could upload photos of the gasket/piston
No, I would NOT recommend this business to a friend
