    Customer/shoplifter attacked by security guard
    Today, at Safeway River and Osborne, I witnessed a very rough justice. A young women exited the store, and was grabbed by a security guard and thrown to the ground. She resisted being hand cuffed, and to subdue her, he knelt on her back. Bystanders protested, and several of us called 911 because he was so violent with her. Even though he had succeeded in cuffing one of her hands, and therefore had control of her, he continued to kneel on her back. He probably weighed 200 pounds, and she was probably under 125. My question to Safeway: How do you justify such violence? I admit, shoplifting is a bother (and we only have the clerk's word that she had shoplifted) and a cost to your system...which will be reflected in the prices I pay for food; but you choose your location. The charge of shoplifting is a minor crime, and your security guard's behavior was far over and above the correct response. Two of Safeway's clerks looked on approvingly as he knelt on her back, and attempted to get bystanders to leave him to his assault. As proof that the process was unnecessary, he finally stood up and pull her back into the store with him...something he could have done from the start, because of his greater body mass. Merry Christmas Safeway...
