The Rotaract
Club of Mississauga (RCM) are devoted to providing selfless service for the
community of Mississauga. We also focus on international causes, raising
awareness to issues across the seas and providing aid to those who need it
most. Aside from our projects, we also cater to the needs of our members by
providing professional development resources and tools for them to succeed in
their careers or on a personal level.
We are the
largest club in the GTA and in the district of 7080, hosting over 40 dedicated
members. We have won local community awards as well as international service
awards. We host regular general meetings bi-weekly on Wednesdays at 7:30
pm at the RCM clubhouse.
History of
Rotaract
Rotaract is
a Rotary International-sponsored service club for young men and women between
the ages of 18 and 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based,
and they focus on the development of young adults as leaders in their
communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in
international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and
international understanding to the world.
Most
Rotaract activities take place at the club level. Rotaract is a membership club
(which is non-exclusive to guests and those interested in learning about the
club). We hold formal meetings, usually every two weeks, which feature
speakers, special outings, social activities, discussions or visits to other
clubs. Club members get together on designated days for service project work,
social events, or professional/leadership development workshops.
Rotaract stands for "Rotary in action". The first club was chartered in 1968 at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Now, Rotaract has grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organisation of over 8,700 clubs spread around the world and 200,000 + members.
Founding Principle
A founding principle of Rotary was to meet periodically to enjoy camaraderie
and enlarge one’s circle of business and professional acquaintances. As the
oldest service club in the world, Rotary club members represent a cross-section
of the community’s owners, executives, managers, political leaders, and
professionals – people who make decisions and influence policy.
As it
approached the 21st century, Rotary worked to meet society’s changing needs,
expanding its service efforts to address such pressing issues as environmental
degradation, illiteracy, world hunger, and children at risk.
